1. About these Terms and Conditions

In these terms and conditions "we" and "us" means Steel Construction Institute and "you" means you the customer. In these terms and conditions words spelt with initial capital letters are defined terms. These terms and conditions together with your Order constitute the Contract between us and you for the supply of Products. No other terms and conditions shall apply. The Contract cannot be varied unless we agree to vary it in writing or by email.

2. Placing Your Order

2.1 To place an Order you must be 18 years of age or over.

2.2 You may place an Order by:

These terms and conditions apply to any of the methods available to order and purchase items.

2.3 When you place your Order you will receive a return email confirming your order. 

2.4 By placing an Order, you make an offer to us to purchase the Products you have selected on these terms and conditions. We may or may not accept your offer at our discretion. If we accept your Order, we will notify you of our acceptance by issuing an Order Confirmation. We will send your Order Confirmation to you by email, verbally over the phone or by fax.

2.5 If we cannot accept your Order we will contact you by email, telephone or fax.

2.6 Information contained on the SCI Shop website constitutes an invitation to treat. No such information constitutes an offer by us to supply any Products.

3. Supply of Your Products

Subject to these terms and conditions, we will supply to you the Products indicated on your Order Confirmation.

4. Prices

4.1 The price for the Products will be the price indicated on the SCI Shop, but are subject to change.

4.2 VAT is only payable for electronic (PDF Downloads) and other non-book products

4.3 Delivery costs are payable by you, the customer. Our delivery charges are as advised to you during the checkout process before you confirm your order.

5. Paying for Your Products

5.1 You must pay in pounds sterling as indicated on the SCI Shop website.

5.3 You must supply your credit/debit card details when you place your Order.

5.4 We will ship your Products and receipt to the address provided

6. Delivery of Your Products

6.1 Unless otherwise agreed by us, we will deliver your Products to the billing address for your credit/debit card.

6.2 We will use our reasonable endeavours to deliver your Products to you within 5 working days of the date of issue of your Order Confirmation for UK orders and 10 working days for overseas orders. If we are unable to deliver your Products to you within 10 working days of the date of issue of your Order Confirmation, you will have the option to cancel your Order.

6.3 Except to the extent that your Products comprise Software, title to and risk in your Products will pass to you on delivery.

7. Your Right to Return the Products

Customer Guarantee & Returns Policy

7.1 If you are not satisfied with any Product you have purchased from us, you may return the Product to us and obtain a refund of the price of the Product returned if you contact us within 30 Days of delivery of the Product to you. However, you may not return a Product to us and claim a refund if the Product concerned is Software which we supplied to you sealed and unused and you have broken the seal or where the Product is the supply of or access to Digital Products and the performance has begun with Customer’s prior express consent.

7.2 In order to exercise your option to return a Product you are not satisfied with, you must telephone us on +44 (0)1344 636505 between 09:00 and 17:00 Mondays to Fridays or email shopsales@steel-sci.com to make arrangements for return of the Product to the Steel Construction Institute. We will send you Return Authorisation Documentation.

7.3 Please note that we will refund postage at the least expensive delivery method.

7.4 Please note that no refund will be given for Digital Products once these have been made available to download.

8. Software Licensing

All Software is licensed to you on the terms and conditions of the applicable licence agreements. These licence agreements are shipped with the Software.

9. Our Liability

9.1 If you are a Consumer, nothing in the Contract shall limit or exclude our liability for breach of any term implied by statute. If you are not a Consumer:

these terms and conditions set out the full extent of our obligations and liabilities in respect of the supply of the Products and performance of the Services;
there are no warranties, conditions or other terms that are binding on us except as expressly stated in the Contract; and any warranty, condition or other term concerning the Products or Services which might otherwise be implied into or incorporated in the Contract by statute, common law or otherwise (including without limitation any implied term as to quality or fitness for purpose) is hereby expressly excluded.

9.2 Subject to Conditions 9.1, we will not be liable under the Contract for any loss of income, loss of profits, loss of contracts, loss of data or for any indirect or consequential loss or damage of any kind howsoever arising and whether caused by tort (including negligence), breach of contract or otherwise.

9.3 Subject to Conditions 9.1 and 9.2 our maximum aggregate liability under the Contract whether in contract, tort (including negligence) or otherwise shall in no circumstances exceed the amount payable by you to us in respect of the Product(s) in question.

When contacting us you must quote your Customer Order Number.

11. Export Control

You agree to comply with all Export Laws. You agree (i) not to export any Product to any country in contravention of any Export Law, and (ii) not to export any Product to any country for which an export licence or other governmental approval is required, without first obtaining all necessary licences or other approvals. You warrant that you are not located in, under the control of, or a national or resident of any country to which export of the Products is prohibited by any Export Law.

13. Money back guarantee

SCI offers a 30-day money back guarantee on all of its books. Should you not be totally satisfied with your purchase, then simply return the book in a resaleable condition and we will refund your money.

14. Payment methods

Payment may be made using Visa, MasterCard, Switch or Delta using the SagePay (verisecurepayment) Server system. Your card details are verified over an encrypted secure channel and are not disclosed to us - we only receive notification from SagePay as to whether the card transaction was authorised or declined. If you wish to pay by a method other than credit/debit card purchases please contact our sales staff (Email shopsales@steel-sci.com or Telephone +44 (0) 1344 636505; please note that payment is required before we dispatch goods.

15 Liability

We make no promise that our Internet services will meet your requirements, or that the service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or entirely error free. We shall not be liable for any losses resulting from the use or the inability to use the service or messages received or transactions entered into through the service or resulting from unauthorised access to, or alteration of your transmissions or data. We will not be liable for loss of profits, wasted expenditure, corruption or destruction of data or any other loss.

All rights in the designs and information on the web site are owned by The Steel Construction Institute. You may copy and print portions of this web site for the sole purpose of placing an order with our Internet services. The materials on our Internet sites may not be used for any other purpose. We will use the information you provide and transactional information, for administering this service and for marketing purposes including market research. We may analyse your data and send you offers and information by mail or e-mail about our other products or services. If you do not want us to contact you by mail or e-mail, or send you offers, please advise us by sending an Email to shopsales@steel-sci.com.

17. Laws

These conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales and any disputes will be decided only by the Courts of England and Wales.
